Skills Contests & Social – Bentley Sports Complex

Once the Opening Ceremonies are completed, teams are welcome to participate in the skills contests.   Below are the rules for each event.  If you have more than 12 players, you can have extra participants in the Throwing Accuracy event.  Once all the teams have competed, trophies will be given out at 7:30pm.  Feel free to trade pins during the opening ceremonies, skills contest and social.  Pin trading will also continue throughout the week during the Series.  Be sure to get your Official Tournament Pin Towels at the Souvenir stand. 

 

Skills Contests

 

Team Mom Relay

Rules:  Each team will enter 2 players and 2 team moms to participate.  One player will run from home to 1st and give the baseball to the 1st team mom who will run from 1st to 2nd where she will give the baseball to the next runner who will run from 2nd to 3rd where he will give the baseball to the 2nd team mom who will run from 3rd to home.  Teams will be timed and the one with the best time will be the champion.  Trophies will be given to the winning team.

 

Around the Horn

Rules:  Each team will enter 5 players…one at pitcher, home, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.  The pitcher will throw the ball to home who will then throw to 1st who will then throw to 2nd who will then throw to 3rd who will throw to home.  The team with the best time will receive trophies. 

 

Home Run Derby

Rules:  Each team can enter two players.  Each player will hit off live pitching from one of their own coaches.  Each coach will be given 5 balls to pitch to their player.  After all participants have completed the preliminary round, the top 5 hitters will advance to the finals.  If there are no over the fence homeruns hit, balls will be marked where they first hit the ground…not where they end up.  In the final round, each participant will receive 3 balls.  The champion will receive a trophy. 

 

Throwing Accuracy

Rules:  Each team can enter 3 participants.  Each player will throw five baseballs from the specified mark on the field toward the board set up at home plate.  Points are scored as follows:  In the hole 3 points, in the hole with one bounce 2 points, hit the board 1 point.  Players tied after each round will move on to the next round and throw from a further distance.   The top thrower will receive a trophy.

 

 

Social

 

While the skills contests are going on, there will be plenty of other things for the rest of the family.  DJ Connection will be providing music and entertainment throughout the entire events.  We will have complimentary face painting from 5pm – 6pm for the little ones and there will be plenty of food as well. 

 

Teams will be receiving tickets for their players and coaches at the Coaches meeting that can be turned in for a hamburger plate at the concession stand.   We encourage all parents and siblings to enjoy a fresh grilled hamburger with the fixins, chips,and beans along with their players for only $5.  Other concession regulars will be available as well.
